Sunday August 10, 2014
St. John's Lutheran Church
1701 L Street, Sacramento.
Please plan to join us Sunday, August 10th, for a very special observance of the August Peace Event. For 28 years, we have gathered to remember the tragic bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima and to renew our dedication to the abolition of nuclear weapons. The importance of this work continues, as the US and other nations still commit vast amounts of resources to weapons development, while failing to stop the spread of nuclear weapons.
The planning committee has prepared an inspirational family program with music by Jenn Rogar, the telling of the story of Sadako and the Thousand Cranes, and an opportunity to take action against nuclear weapons.
Our speaker this year is Dr. Thomas Swift. His topic is “The Decision to Bomb Hiroshima: Unleashing the Most Terrible Weapon in History.” Dr. Swift is known to many in the area as the CSUS History Professor emeritus specializing in Japan and Asia.
To help you spread the word, we are enclosing copies of our flier. If you have questions, or need more fliers, please contact JoAnn Fuller at firstname.lastname@example.org or (916) 536 9956. (Or download and print the fliers from the links below.)
We anticipate a meaningful afternoon and hope that you and your family and friends will join us Sunday, Aug. 10th, from 3-4:30pm (doors open at 2:45pm for refreshments and networking) at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1701 L Street, Sacramento. We are reserving the church lot for handicapped parking; in addition to free Sunday street parking, you may use the free church parking lot with entrance on K St.
We also ask you to become a sponsor. You, our sponsors, underwrite the expenses of this all-volunteer event. Again this year we are partnering with the Physicians for Social Responsibility so your donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
As a sponsor, your name will appear in the program. If you represent a sponsoring group, you can reserve tabling space for materials about your work. For sponsorship, please complete the form below and return it promptly by July 25th to JoAnn Fuller, 5021 Gladys Ct., Carmichael, CA 95608.
